Nourish Your Hair in the Heat, Salt, and Sun

Summer brings sunshine, pool days, and warm breezes… but it can also bring dry, frizzy, and sun-stressed strands if we’re not intentional. Just like your skin needs extra hydration and protection this time of year, your scalp and hair need ritual too—especially if you’re on a journey toward non-toxic, radiant hair health.

This guide walks you through a simple, soul-soothing summer hair care ritual to keep your hair soft, balanced, and thriving through the heat.


🌿 Step 1: Pre-Sun Ritual – Protect Before You Play

Before stepping outside, protect your scalp and strands from the elements.

Do this:

  • Spritz damp hair with a mineral-rich mist like our Mermaid Spray. It’s packed with sea salt for texture, aloe vera for moisture, and rosemary to support hair growth and soothe the scalp.

  • Gently massage into your roots and ends.

  • Bonus: wear a hat or scarf to physically shield your scalp from UV rays.

Saltwater and chlorine can be brutal on the hair’s natural oils.

When you swim:

  • Rinse your hair with fresh water before entering the ocean or pool (this helps prevent it from absorbing as much chlorine or salt). Literally, do this.

  • Rinse again afterward, and follow with a gentle wash if needed. Anytime we swim in the lake or ocean, you already know my kids and I are washing our hair with shampoo and condish bc ya girl doesn't want fishy smelling hair thx.

Avoid over-washing. Summer hair thrives with balance, not over-cleansing. I try to stick to twice a week, unless I swim then 3x a week.

  • Am I nourishing myself with whole, vibrant foods? Eat the rainbow as I always say. Cut up a cucumber with hummus. Grab a handful of blueberries. Start small.

Your hair reflects how you care for yourself. This is a season to return to your roots.
