Hello lovelies,
Here are three harmful ingredients to check your bottles at home for — and organic alternatives that will leave your skin and hair feeling nourished, without the harmful side effects.
1. Sulfates (e.g., Sodium Lauryl Sulfate)
Sulfates are harsh detergents used to create lather in shampoos and body washes, but they strip your hair and skin of important oils, causing dryness and irritation.
Better Alternative: Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera naturally cleanses without drying, while providing soothing hydration and nourishment for both hair and skin. This can be found in my Mermaid Texturizing Spray
Also, my favorite shampoo/conditioner that is clean and I love is Calia Naturals.
2. Parabens (e.g., Methylparaben, Propylparaben)
Parabens are preservatives that help extend the shelf life of products, but they can disrupt your hormones and pose long-term health risks, including potential links to cancer.
Better Alternative: Rosemary Extract
Not only does rosemary extract serve as a natural preservative, but it also boosts hair growth and fights inflammation, leaving your hair and scalp feeling fresh and healthy. I use this in my Mermaid Texturizing Spray.
Parabens are commonly found in makeup and toothpaste. My fav clean makeup that actually works is Crunchi (their foundation is awesome).
A toothpaste I really have been liking is Fygg.
3. Phthalates (e.g., Diethyl Phthalate)
Phthalates are commonly used in fragrances to make them last longer. Unfortunately, they can disrupt hormonal balance and cause reproductive health issues.
Better Alternative: Essential Oils (Lavender, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus)
Essential oils like lavender and tea tree oil provide natural fragrance and deliver additional benefits, such as promoting healthy hair growth, reducing stress, and supporting scalp health.
I use quality essential oils in all of my products(unless you get the uscented versions). My Wild Orange + Peppermint dry shampoo has been my most popular lately. Peppermint not only smells good but is good for overall hair health and stimulating follicles for growth.
Hopefully breaking down these 3 ingredients was helpful! Go check your labels and see if any of your products contain these.
Thank you for trusting us with your journey to safer beauty.
xoxo
